Hippiefest

Now here's a summer music festival lineup that made me take notice...

Felix Cavaliere and the Rascals, Mountain, Canned Heat, Lovin' Spoonful, Country Joe McDonald, Mitch Ryder, Iron Butterfly, Vanilla Fudge, Rare Earth, Melanie, Badfinger, Janis Ian, Denny Laine, Terry Sylvester, Dr. Hook and Blood, Sweat and Tears.

The mobile music festival is called Hippiefest and it starts August 3rd at Asher Levy Park in Brooklyn, New York. More shows have been announced in New York, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Michigan.

The tour is the brainchild of promoters Toby Ludwig, Ron Hausfeld and Shelly Schultz, and will be hosted by Woodstock counterculture icon Wavy Gravy.

Felix Cavaliere waxes philosophical...

"The period of the 60's is the equivalent of the Renaissance that occurred artistically in Europe. The same revolution in modern art, music and cultural awakening took place then as well."

"The enduring fact is that the 60's and 70's was an era full of new and beautiful works and thoughts. The generations that follow, however, still feel the beauty and richness of that period. The division in our country is worse today than it has been in many years. Music always bridged the gap; it cannot be suppressed."
