The Pretenders Reissued
The Pretenders...vocalist Chrissie Hynde, guitarist James Honeyman Scott, bassist Pete Farndon and drummer Martin Chambers were one of the best bands of the eighties. The combination of their sharp-as-a-razor songwriting, Hynde's unmistakable voice, Honeyman Scott's inventive guitar work, as well as the driving rhythms created by Farndon and Chambers created a raw, unforgettable sound. It didn't hurt that their albums were on Sire Records either, because the label was on the cutting edge of music on both sides of the Atlantic.
The band's legacy continues today with the release of their first two albums from 1980 and '81...enhanced double disc editions featuring live tracks, demos, and previously unreleased songs...from the fine folks at Rhino Entertainment.

The band's sophomore release in 1981 delivered the hit single "The Adultress," as well as "Message Of Love." A second bonus disc includes previously unreleased demos of "Talk Of The Town," outtakes "I Go To Sleep," and "Pack It Up," and thirteen live tracks recorded at the Santa Monica Civic Center. The Pretenders Greatest Hits DVD also captures the band from their early days on Sire Records, through their last album on Warner Brothers; 1999's Viva El Amor. It's the band's only career-spanning video collection, featuring "Brass In Pocket," "Middle Of The Road," (my personal favorite,) "Back On The Chain Gang," and "Night In My Veins." Also includes the 45-minute documentary No Turn Left Unstoned, featuring interviews with Chrissie Hynde, Nick Lowe, Bono, and Motorhead's Lemmy.
