On the road & on the air...on stage & on the web...

On The Stage...

The Who just rocked the Virgin Music Festival...the Austin City Limits Music Festival closed with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, who did a fantastic set, and then had to pause for a brief rainshower, then finished with an extended set...Petty & the band ripped through some of their greatest hits, then pulled out an old favorite of mine from early Fleetwood Mac days called "Oh Well." Two encores later, they left the crowd wanting more.

On The Web...a couple more weblogs worth noting...

Coolfer writes about the demise of the dual-disc format...CD on one side and DVD on the other. It was an interesting concept, but the format just never took off. So Warner Music Group is planning on marketing their DVD album music format instead. I've purchased a couple of DVD audio discs just to see what they're about. Steely Dan and Eric Clapton with B.B. King, and they both sound great, but have very limited video or bonus content. Watch, wait and see...

The Practice Room describes Bob Dylan's American Journey, created by the Experience Music Project. It's a traveling exhibit that traces Dylan's roots through the folk music scene and onto the world stage. Witness four different films exploring different facets of his career, with rare performance footage and interviews. Listen to three of his greatest albums, Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, and Blonde on Blonde. The exhibit is at the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York through December.

The Practice Room is the blog for WorkShop Live, the finest online music learning experience, teaching guitar, keyboard or bass. They will even give you a free lesson, just to try it out!

They also mention Gibson guitar's MySpace page. Geez, it seems everyone has a page there! But how much crap do you want to surf through to finally get to the good stuff? OK Ok, I'm rambling now...

Lost Melodies blogged about Junior Brown, who is opening shows with Bob Dylan. Brown's unique sound is from his own invention...a six-string guitar on one neck, and a steel guitar on the other. An instrument he calls the guit-steel; you've got to see and hear him play it, to believe it.
