We have digital music and analog ears...

cybercoder (David):
I was reading an Imagine Echoes post about most listened to album, and it made me think. You know, I never listen to an entire CD anymore, since I use iTunes everything goes into the library and I listen to stuff from there.

Typically I listen to a certain genre, you know, a day of Blues, or I will tag all Eric Clapton and SRV, or maybe old stuff, but, I never listen to a complete CD by an artist.

Digital music has changed our listening habits. Whenever my wife goes on a roadtrip she sits down and makes a group of CD's based on her mood and length of the trip. And she really mixes it up, she will have the Bee Gees on the same disc as Def Leppard and Audioslave, just wantever she is into at the time. Very eclectic, and hard for me to take, lol.

For the road I will make a CD by genre or time. Maybe an acoustic CD with all my favorite acoustic tracks or a complete rocker with all the latest rock. Sometimes I will even put the same song performed by different artists together.

mikiesoft (Mike):
I like to make my own CD's using Itunes. I have such a large collection, but not every track is good on every CD, so I pick out my favorites by ripping everything into iTunes, and then my own CD's. I've amassed so many songs now, that I've begun to organize them by era, like the 60's, 70's, etc. Kinda like Time Life does on those late night infomercials you see on TV.

What's so cool about making your own CD collections is this...think of a really great time in your life, when you were young; something really meaningful. Then gather all the great songs from that time period, and put 'em all on CD. I usually wind up sequencing them in a number of ways, until I get some really good segways. Just throw all the tracks into an iTunes folder, and burn away!

I've started making my own holiday CD's too...especially for Halloween and Christmas. And this year, being our first on cybersmusic.com, I'll do a special CD to close out 2006. Now if I can just get that LaserMagic label maker doodad!

You get some really great CD's for listening in the car, where I do some of my best (and loudest) listening. It's the only place the neighbors don't complain about! But for home, I put the songs into folders for easy listening (and quick access.) I use iTunes almost exclusively, because it's easy to use and there's no subscription fee. I just wish their catalog was deeper, so I can collect some of the really older eclectic stuff.

Eclectic is what my LP collection is. I've wanted to digitize all my albums onto CD or DVD for years, and now I can with the new USB turntable. It's a dream come true for vinyl junkies!

It's funny isn't it? In the old days when you first moved into a new apartment, the stereo was the always the very first thing we set up. Now it's the computer and speakers.
