It was forty years ago that the Beatles played their last live concert. It was held at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on August 29th, 1966. The show only lasted 35 minutes, but was important from the standpoint that it was final public concert by the Beatles, ending their famous but frantic world tour. Their last public appearance in England was at Wembley Stadium on May 1st, 1965.By now the story is a familiar one. The group was tired of touring and not being able to hear themselves sing. They had honed their studio skills to the point where their talent and creativity were taking leaps and bounds ahead of the times. Thus began a new chapter in their recording career, as demonstrated by their next albums Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in '67.
