Today is a Historic day

52 years ago today a song was recorded in New York that has been given credit for the start of Rock and Roll. Bill Haley and the Comets recorded Rock Around The Clock. It has always been considered the cornerstone of Rock and Roll, although Rocket 88 is also mentioned by a lot of historians as the real first Rock and Roll record.

Something I did not know...
"The lyrics were based on numerous blues tunes boasting of 24-hour-long romantic prowess (the term rock initially having had a sexual meaning), but in Haley's hands they took on a more innocent teenage atmosphere of dancing all night long." No wonder we like Rock and Roll so much, and I guess that goes to prove that the sexual revolution and it's dovetail into Rock has a real basis.

Thanks Bill Haley !

PS: Just look at that picture, what a bunch of rough looking Rock and Roll hulligans.
